Iceland Hotels - Useful Sites

While planning my driving trip round Iceland, I found it most difficult to find hotels outside of Reykjavik and Akureyri where we spent most of our time!

There isn't one central site which lists these places.

Also, many of the hotels or guesthouses are expensive (and not very nice) though some offer shared bathrooms for a lower price. The whole shared bathroom concept is rather strange for me (college is over!) but at least the bathrooms are fairly clean.

Here are the sites that were most helpful.

Reykjavik and Akureyri:

  • Trip Advisor Iceland Hotels

  • Priceline UK

  • Hotels.is - Quite comprehensive

  • Outside of the big cities:

  • Edda Hotel Chain - Great if you are driving. Hotels throughout Iceland

  • Fosshotels - Hotels throughout Iceland but not as comprehensive as Edda

  • Icelandic Farm Holidays - B&B / Farm accomodation throughout Iceland. Site is hard to use but there is a wealth of accommodation options.

  • My Iceland Travel Diary details the hotels we stayed at each night with photos and approximate prices:

    Day 1: Hello Reykjavik!
Day 2: Battling Nature? Not for the Faint Hearted
    Day 3: It's a Beautiful Day (channel: U2)
Day 4: The road to Myvatn
    Day 5: Iphone Malfunction
    Day 5: All Fossed Out
Day 5: Jarbodin - Spa Myvatn
Day 6: The Barren Interior and Askja
Day 7: Off the Beaten Path
    Day 8: Hellish Driving Day!
Day 9: Revenge of the Puffins
Day 9: Food and Botched Reservations
Day 9: Nuni? No NĂ¼ni ....
Day 10: Time to Say Goodbye
